Israel kills outspoken Palestinian author Refaat Alareer

Alareer is the co-editor of Gaza Unsilenced (2015) and was the editor and a contributor to the book Gaza Writes Back (2014).

According to several Palestinians, outspoken Palestinian author Refaat Alareer was killed by Israel along with his family on Thursday. Alareer was a lecturer at the Islamic University of Gaza, teaching foreign poetry and English literature.

“Breaking, my heart is broken, my friend & colleague Refaat AlAreer was killed with his family minutes ago,” Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha wrote on X.

Alareer is the co-editor of Gaza Unsilenced (2015) and was the editor and contributor to the book Gaza Writes Back (2014).

In his last post on social media platform X on 04 December, Alareer said: “The Democratic Party and Biden are responsible for the Gaza genocide perpetrated by Israel.”

Since October 07, Alareer has appeared in many interviews and conversation about the situation in Gaza.

“I can’t believe this I can’t believe this,” shared Palestinian activist Mohammed El-Kurd.

“If I must die, Let it bring hope Let it be a tale” are lines from Alareer’s poem that he posted on 01 November.
