Ukraine invasion: Russia moves towards Kyiv, Zelenskyy vow to stay

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video address early on Friday that 137 people have been killed and hundreds more wounded, a day after Russia launched full scale invasion in Ukraine.

On Friday morning, Russia is inching towards Kyiv, the capital, and other key cities to overthrow the current democratically elected government.

Zelenskyy has said he has information that he is the “No. 1 target” for the invading Russians, but he is determined to remain in Kyiv.

The Chernobyl nuclear power plant was captured by Russian forces, after a strong fight on Thursday evening, according to Ukrainian officials.

An estimated 100,000 people fled as explosions and gunfire rocked major cities. Dozens have been reported killed.

The United States, Britain, Japan, Canada, Australia and the EU unveiled more sanctions on Moscow on top of penalties earlier this week, including a move by Germany to halt an $11 billion gas pipeline from Russia to stop Ukraine invasion.
