Rakesh Tikait, Uttar Pradesh’s peasant leader and one of the faces of ongoing farmers’ protest against Narendra Modi government’s new agri laws, asserted Friday that farmers were ready to sacrifice one crop but will not let the agitation weaken.
“If the government is not waking up then we can not do anything, but we are not going anywhere. Farmers have been indulging in the farming of loss for the last 70 years. If they have to sacrifice one more crop, they are ready. Even if they have to take the help of more workers to harvest crops, they will do it. They will keep crops at their home but agitation will not be weakened,” said Tikait.
Meanwhile, Yavatmal district administration in Maharashtra has denied permission for Tikait’s ‘Maha Panchayat’ rally which was to take place Saturday.
Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Tikait was scheduled to address the rally at Azad Maidan ground in Yavatmal city on Saturday.
The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, organiser of the rally, had said earlier in the day that it was firm on holding the Maha Panchayat.
Maharashtra co-ordinator of the Morcha Sandip Gidde had said that Tikait would arrive in Nagpur on Friday night and they would stage a sit-in if the rally was not allowed.
