In the latest episode of anti-Muslim violence in the country, a Muslim family was brutally attacked by Hindu Mob in Pivday Kampel village in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district on Saturday night for not leaving the locality before their ultimatum.
The Hindu group had given 09 October as an ultimatum for Fauzia’s family to flee from the village.
“Some RSS [Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh] people had threatened us that if we do not leave the village by October 9, we will have to face the consequences,” Fauzia told Maktoob. “We did not vacate the village, so about 100-150 RSS workers attacked us. They thrashed us mercilessly and indiscriminately”.
According to the police complaint by the family, accessed by Maktoob, the family has been harassed for last three months by Hindu extremist groups.
Four men and two women in the family have sustained injuries in the attack. The family also claims that their house was looted.
Visuals of the attack have surfaced on the internet in which the family can be seen attacked by the mob.
The mob also broke Fauzia’s phone as she tried to record the hate crime. The group hurdled islamophobic abuses at the family, while attacking the elderly and women.
Advocate Ehtesham Hashmi told Maktoob that the family was a victim of anti-Muslim hate crime, spiking in the state. Recently, a bangle vendor was thrashed by Hindu men for entering a Hindu locality.
The family & advocate further alleged that police are trying to save the accused by filing a counter case against the men in the Muslim family.
Sharukh, one of the victims, told Maktoob that the attack was backed by BJP. The family names “Deepak, Amit Maheshwari, Kapil Parmar, Rahul, Vikash” in their complaint.
“They attacked the Muslim family with iron rod and pipe. We have filed the complaint but we are yet to get the FIR registered against the assailants,” Hashmi added.
