Miss Trans Global Universe has crowned a new winner.
Sruthy Sithara, Kerala model-artist, has won the title of Miss Trans Global Universe 2021 at the annual pageant on Wednesday, 1 December.
Miss Trans Global (MTG) is an inclusive international pageant that showcases the intelligence and creativity of trans women globally.
“I am Sruthy Sithara, a model by profession and actress by passion and I am proudly representing India,” on December 1 around 1 am, Sithara received her award through an online event.
“I am dedicating this to my Amma (mother) and Anannyah chechi, I’m sure both are witnessing this moment from heaven,” Sithara said after receiving the award. Sithara’s mother died last year. Anannyah Kumari Alex, Sithara’s friend, and Kerala’s first transgender radio jockey, died by suicide a couple of months ago alleging medical negligence by doctors of a hospital in Kochi.
“This smile means a lot for me, for my community, for my country, for the transglobal organization, for all those who are oppressed and marginalized,” said Sithara who has also crowned the Most Eloquent Queen at the pageant.
She went on to say: Thank you so much for all make-up artists who made me different throughout my show, all photographers and videographers who captured beautiful photos and videos, All costume designers who made me stunning in different rounds. We all together made it.”
Miss Trans Global from the Philippines and Canada secured the places of the first runner up and the second runner up, respectively.
Sithara who was earlier a part of the transgender cell at the Kerala government’s Social Justice Department, recently co-founded an online campaign “The Kaleidoscope” to normalise the rights of the LGBTQ community and create public acceptance towards queer relationships.
