Senior leaders of the Congress party including Rahul Gandhi were detained Tuesday during the protests against the ED’s summoning of party chief Sonia Gandhi in an alleged money laundering case.

The detained leaders also included Ranjeet Ranjan, KC Venugopal, Manickam Tagore, Imran Pratapgarhi, and Kodikkunnil Suresh.

The protest was also over a range of issues from price rise and GST to the targeting of opposition leaders by probe agencies.

Sonia Gandhi reached the ED office in New Delhi on Tuesday for a second round of questioning in the National Herald money laundering case. She was accompanied by Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi.

After a stand-off that lasted for about 30 minutes, the former Congress chief was detained by the policemen who lifted him and put him in the bus along with other MPs who had already been detained.

“India is a police state, Modi is a king:,” Rahul Gandhi said before his detention.

“All (Congress) MPs came here. They talked about inflation, unemployment. They (Police) are not allowing us to sit here. Discussions are not allowed inside (the Parliament) and here they are arresting us,” he said.
