Govt should reveal reasons for raiding PFI leaders, says HD Kumaraswamy

Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy Tuesday asked the government to reveal the reasons for the raids on Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders.

““If the (state) government fails to do so, we will have to believe that these raids are being conducted to divert attention from the allegations of corruption against the government,” said Kumaraswamy.

He said: “The government should reveal the details of the discoveries made and other documents to the people of the state. If they fail to reveal the truth behind the raids, people will suspect that these raids are being made to divert attention from the ‘PayCM’ campaign of the Congress.”

“…none of the communities in the state should be made to feel anxious or insecure. If they have found any information on anti-national activities, it should be divulged. The government should not wiggle out of this by giving lame excuses,” he added.

The nationwide crackdown on the Muslim body and its office bearers continued on Tuesday as well, during which more than 90 people linked with the PFI were detained or arrested in raids across six states.

Conducted mostly by state police teams, the raids were spread across Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, Assam and Madhya Pradesh.

Ok September 22, multi-agency teams spearheaded by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested 106 leaders and activists of the PFI in 15 states including its national chairman and prominent Muslim figures for allegedly supporting terror activities in the country.
