Umar Khalid walks out of jail after 832 days on 7-day bail for sister’s wedding

Prominent human rights activist Umar Khalid was released from jail after 832 days on a one-week interim bail on Friday morning to attend his sister’s wedding.

Umar Khalid reached home at 8.30 am and is not allowed to talk to the media.

On 12 December, a Delhi court granted a week`s interim bail to Khalid in the larger conspiracy case of the 2020 northeast Delhi pogrom. Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat of Karkardooma Court had granted Khalid bail for a period of one week, starting December 23.

He has to surrender on December 30. He had sought an interim bail of two weeks for attending the marriage.

Khalid was arrested on 13 September 2020.
