Israeli air strikes on Rafah kills at least 15 people, hours before ceasefire talks

At least 15 Palestinians were killed on Sunday night in Israeli airstrikes on residential blocks in the city of Rafah, south of Gaza Strip, Palestinian official news agency Wafa reported on Monday.

Israeli forces launched strikes on Rafah, which is home to more than a million people who have sought refuge to escape the relentless Israeli bombardment, hours before Egyptian government officials and Hamas leaders were likely to discuss prospects of a ceasefire agreement.

Local sources suggest that the death toll might exceed 20. Many are still trapped under the rubble and civil defence crews are working to rescue them, Xinhua news agency reported, citing local sources.

As per health officials, several houses were struck by Israeli planes in Gaza City, in the north of the Gaza Strip.

During the past 24 hours, the Israeli army killed 66 Palestinians and wounded 138 others, bringing the total death toll to 34,454 and injuries to 77,575 since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war on October 7, 2023.
