Bihar: Muslim kid arrested for rioting, gets bail after 6 days

Eight-year-old Muslim boy who was arbitrarily arrested six days ago by Bihar Police have got bail Wednesday. His 70-year-old Mohammad Yasin who was also arrested, was granted bail on Tuesday.

“They got bail,” Azhar Qureshi, the boy’s cousin brother said to Maktoob.

The boy was arrested by the Bihar Police after violence against Muslims took place on 8 September during a Mahavir Akhara rally in Barharia town.

Police recordedthe boy’s age as 13, though his family rejected the claim. His birth certificate showed he was eight.

Yasin and his grandson were among the 35 persons booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with rioting, attempt to murder, assault, disturbing a religious assembly, causing grievous hurt, provoking breach of peace and criminal conspiracy. Out of 35, 25 are Muslims.

The boy reached home around 6.30 pm on Wednesday.

The boy and Yasin had gone for afternoon prayers on 8 September with his grandfather when violence erupted in the region.
