Addressing the press on Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the lockdown in the National Capital would be extended by another week in view of a rising number of coronavirus cases.

“The corona situation had worsened, which is why we started a 6-day lockdown last week, which ends tomorrow morning. With cases rising at a rapid rate, it was necessary for us to start a lockdown,” he said.

CM added: “It was a weapon we wielded to fight the pandemic. Given that cases are still rising, we have consulted with the people of Delhi and decided to extend the lockdown by one more week.”

Oxygen shortage

Addressing the acute shortage of coronavirus in the National Capital, CM Kejriwal announced the launch of a new portal for better management of oxygen supply.

“We have started a portal that will be updated every two hours by oxygen manufacturers, suppliers and hospitals for better management of oxygen supply. The Central and State teams are working together,” he said.

However, Delhi’s oxygen access problems remain.

“The requirement is 700 metric tons and what’s reaching us is 330 to 335 metric tonnes only,” CM told reporters.

“I have written a letter to all the Chief Ministers of the country yesterday. If you have any possibility of oxygen, then let us know. Negotiations have started with some states and I will tell you when any positive results will come,” Kejriwal added.
