Delhi Election Results: AAP is leading in 62 and BJP is in just 8

Arvind Kejriwal is set to return as Chief Minister as Aam Aadmi Party obtained a massive lead over Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi as counting of votes progressed for the Delhi state election.

AAP is now leading in 62 seats while the BJP is ahead in just 8 seats. According to the Election Commission, AAP’s vote share is currently at 53.5%, and the BJP’s at 38.8%.

The counting of votes for all the 70 constituencies, which voted on Saturday, began at 8 am.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is leading at the moment from New Delhi constituency by a big margin of votes against BJP’s Sunil Kumar Yadav.

After initial hiccups, Atishi won the Kalkaji seat, while Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia secured the Patparganj seat. Thanking Delhi, Atishi said, “People have voted for the agenda of development.”

In Okhla, AAP candidate Amanatullah Khan has managed a significant lead of over 90000 votes. Shaheen Bagh and Jamia Millia Islamia the hotbeds of anti-CAA protests, comes under the Okhla constituency.

Addressing workers and volunteers at the party headquarters in Delhi, AAP’s Sanjay Singh said: “People of Delhi have handed over a huge majority to their son. We are headed for a landslide. As of now, we are leading in 58 seats, but the number is set to rise. Your son was called a terrorist. Arvind Kejriwal was pained by it. It was said it’s an India Pakistan match. Hindustan jeet Gaya!”

BJP

BJP’s Delhi unit Manoj Tiwari asked party workers not to lose heart. “What we are seeing now is much better than what exit polls showed,” he told NDTV. Earlier in the day, Tiwari had predicted a significant win for his party and said it will come to power in Delhi. “Don’t be surprised if we win 55 seats,” he had said.

Congress

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said everyone knew that Aam Aadmi Party will return to power for the third time. “Congress’s defeat will not send a good message,” he told ANI. “The victory of AAP against the Bharatiya Janata Party and its communal agenda is significant.”

Prashant Kishor, Election strategist

“Thank you Delhi for standing up to protect the soul of India!” tweeted election strategist Prashant Kishor. Kishor’s political consultancy firm Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) had backed AAP in Delhi polls.
