Journalists Mandeep Punia and Dharmender Singh were detained and manhandled by the Delhi Police from the farmers’ protest site at Singhu border on Saturday night.
Punia is a freelance journalist and contributor to Caravan while Singh is working in Online News India.
Newslaundry reported that the eyewitnesses told media that both journalists who were reporting the ongoing agitation, were taken to Alipur Police Station.
Punia, journalist based in Haryana was picked up near HP Petrol Pump in Singhu border where the press conference of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti is held.
Senior journalist Prabhjit Singh said in a tweet that Punia was on a story on whereabouts of a farmer who was assaulted and taken away by policemen yesterday when BJP workers had attacked protesters in Singhu border.
“He was taking pictures at barricades when picked up,” Singh said.
According to Newslaundry, it learned that a local resident wanted to pass through and was in conversation with policemen when Punia began filming the conversation. This happened after the Delhi police had sealed the entry point to the protest site.
This is a developing story.
