FIR against magazine editor for criticising Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on Facebook

Kozhikode city kasaba police station has filed a case against the editor of ‘Maruvaakku’, a Malayalam monthly.

An FIR was filed against editor and senior journalist P Ambika, for criticising the Kerala Chief Minister and Home Minister Pinarayi Vijayan through a Facebook post.

She called out Vijayan, who is also a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), for his alleged role in the extra-judicial encounter killing of a woman Maoist activist Kavita (Lakshmi), as reported by Sabrang India.

The FIR was filed after a complaint was submitted by Martin Monacheri, Kerala region general secretary of NewsPaper Association of India, a Sangh allied organisation.

The FIR alleges that ‘Maruvaakku’ magazine is the mouthpiece of the CPI Maoist party.

It further accuses the facebook post of Ambika, wrote on December 29, 2023, portrayed Pinarayi Vijayan in bad taste in the context of the killing of Kavita.

The editor has also been accused of creating division in society and calling for rioting.

The FIR is registered under sections 153 of IPC and 120 of Kerala Police Act.Ambika has submitted her application for an anticipatory bail.

While denying all the allegations, Ambika says she was not notified about the FIR by the police until she moved her plea for bail.
