Hindutva groups launch hate campaign, demand action against Kerala Speaker AN Shamseer for remarks on Hindu deity

Protests by the BJP and other Hindu nationalist groups in Kerala have intensified, with their cadres launching a hate campaign against Kerala Speaker A N Shamseer, accusing him of hurting Hindu sentiments in a recent speech.

Shamseer’s remarks at a school function in Kochi on July 21, where he referred to Lord Ganesha as a myth, have caused strong reactions from the Hindutva outfits. Additionally, Shamseer expressed concerns about attempts to promote myths rather than scientific knowledge, citing an example of claims that the airplane was invented during the Hindutva period, not by the Wright Brothers.

During his speech at the event, Shamseer accused the Union government of trying to teach children Hindu myths instead of accomplishments in science and technology.

A member of BJP’s state committee has filed a complaint with the Thiruvananthapuram Police Commissioner seeking registration of a case against the Speaker over his alleged remarks, the party’s Kerala unit said in a social media post.

Vishva Hindu Parishad state leadership has announced that they will file police complaints against Shameer in all police stations throughout the state. They claim to have already begun lodging these complaints.

“Shamseer is a religious bigot, who is exploiting his position in public life, to denigrate Hindu faith and beliefs. Hindumisia is deep rooted in the Communists, who have now forged an alliance with the Congress, a self proclaimed Muslim party. Will Rahul Gandhi, a former MP from Kerala, disassociate the Congress from such Hindu hating views or endorse it with this silence?,” tweeted BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya, who is infamous for his hate speech posts on social media.

“Shamseer is one of many jihadis in Kerala who hide their Islamic Radicalism in communist mask,” read a tweet by Jothish Nair, a Twitter profile followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Shamsheer is a jihadi without a beard and in pants and shirt. That’s all. No difference (sic),” another Hindutva user Mahadevan Menon tweeted.

“Is he more special than the previous speakers? Maybe he believes that his hands won’t be chopped off as it happened to Joseph sir. But the Hindu society does not have to remain like that forever. There is no doubt about that. This is what we have to say to the DYFI members and the police gathered here,” said Yuva Morcha General Secretary K Ganesh on Tuesday.

Many Facebook profiles associated with Kerala Hindutva groups have been running a hate campaign against Shamseer, labeling him as a traitor, jihadi, Pakistani, and terrorist.
