India’s coronavirus recovery rate touches 97.21%

COVID19 protocols makes mask mandatory

The daily rise in coronavirus infections in India was recorded above 15,000 after nearly a month taking the country’s total tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,10,46,914, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

As many as 16,738 new coronavirus cases and 138 deaths were reported in India in the last 24 hours.

The death toll has mounted to 1,56,705 with the loss of 138 lives.

On January 29, 18,855 new infections were recorded in a span of 24 hours after which the daily rise of cases stayed below 15,000. The daily deaths were registered above 130 after a gap of 26 days.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,07,38,501 which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.21 per cent and the case fatality rate stands at 1.42 per cent.

The active caseload increased to 1,51,708 which comprises 1.37 per cent of the total infections, the data stated.

The Centre on Wednesday despatched three-member multi-disciplinary teams headed by Joint Secretary level officers in the Health Ministry to Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, following surge on daily new cases in these States.

Announcing the next phase of India’s vaccination drive, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar Wednesday said that people above the age of 60 and those above 45 years with co-morbidities will be vaccinated from March 01 at 10,000 government and over 20,000 private vaccination centres.

The vaccine will be given free of cost at govt centres, he said.
