Killing of Junaid, Nasir: Six detained, efforts on to nab rest, says CM Ashok Gehlot

A day after burnt bodies of two Muslim men from Rajasthan, Junaid and Nasir, were found in a Bolero in Haryana’s Bhiwani and family members claimed that they had been abducted by Bajrang Dal, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has assured immediate action.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the gruesome incident and said police have been directed to take strict action in the matter.

Gehlot’s condemnation comes after family members, rights activists, and Muslim politicians accused Gehlot government of inaction against Hindutva assaliants.

“Half a dozen people have been detained and are being interrogated. Those named in the FIR are associated with the Bajrang Dal but whether they were involved in the crime or not is yet to be ascertained,” Inspector General of Police, Bharatpur range, Gaurav Srivastava said to reporters.

An FIR was lodged at Gopalgarh police station in Rajasthan against five people – Anil, Shrikant, Rinku Saini, Lokesh Singla, and Mohit alias Monu Manesar – on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victims’ family members.

The accused were booked under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 365 (kidnapping), 367 (grievously hurt after kidnapping) and 368 (wrongfully keeping in confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). There were no charges of murder and killing in FIR.

Police have named five people in the case and detained one of the accused so far.

Two Muslim men were allegedly kidnapped, lynched, and set ablaze by a Hindutva mob in Haryana’s Bhiwani district on Thursday. The men were identified as Junaid and Nasir, residents of Gopalgarh village in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur.

The incident happened 100 kilometers away from their village, and the Hindutva group had accused the deceased Muslim men of cow smuggling. They had been missing for two days, according to family members who spoke to Maktoob.

The family members said to Maktoob that they were killed by members of the Hindutva outfit Bajrang Dal, and that Bajrang Dal leader Monu Manesar was behind the gruesome killing.

A family member told Maktoob that Monu Manesar and his group, Bajrang Dal, had abducted Junaid and Nasir from the forests of Piruka and taken them to Barwas village in Bhiwani, where they were burned alive
