Hindumbi.KK, a veteran nurse from the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kavaratti, Lakshadweep, has been honored with the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Award by the President of India. This recognition celebrates her unwavering dedication and selfless contributions to the nursing profession.
The announcement of Hindumbi’s commendable achievement has stirred immense pride among the residents of islands. Many took to social media to express their admiration and extend heartfelt congratulations to the esteemed nurse.
The grand ceremony, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday, witnessed President Draupadi Murmu bestowing the National Florence Nightingale Awards upon deserving nursing professionals.
These awards, established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in 1973, aim to acknowledge and honor the exceptional services rendered by nurses and nursing professionals to society.
The year 2022 recipients of the National Florence Nightingale Award included Anita Nakra and Major General Smita Deorani from Delhi, Namita Kalita from Assam, Sujata Peter Toscano from Maharashtra, Dimkhanman Hungshing from Manipur, Tejavath Sushila from Telangana, Rita Mandal from West Bengal, Reliance Pirangap from Meghalaya, Ethodo Linggi from Arunachal Pradesh, Dr. Poreddi Vijayalakshmi from Karnataka, Hindumbi K.K. from Lakshadweep, Sebati Sahu from Odisha, Neeraj Tambolia from Rajasthan, Ganapathi Santhi from Tamil Nadu, and Manju Kera from Uttarakhand.
As for the year 2023, the esteemed recipients of the National Florence Nightingale Award are Suchitra Mistry from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gayatri Kumari from Bihar, Nagaratna T from Karnataka, Manjulata Maharana from Odisha, Sugandhi K from Tamil Nadu, Ambika Pradhan from Sikkim, Firdausa Jan from Jammu and Kashmir, Geeta AR from Kerala, Brig Amita Deorani from Maharashtra, Pushpa Shravan Podi from Maharashtra, Irom Chandrabala Devi from Manipur, C Jopari from Mizoram, Sathiyakani Thangaraj from Puducherry, Madhavi Rane Chikhale from Punjab, and Abishmita Ghosh from West Bengal.
