Speaking to reporters outside the Raj Bhavan, Nitish said that a new alliance will be formed. He added that things were “not working out” in the Opposition’s INDIA alliance and he decided to resign because things were not good.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 4 pm on Sunday. Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar met JD(U) MLAs, while the BJP, too, called a meeting of all its MLAs and MPs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Nitish to congratulate him.

In the current 243-member Bihar Assembly, Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) has 45 MLAs and the BJP 78, taking the combine’s tally to 123. With one more Independent expected to support them, the alliance will cross the 122-member majority mark.
