Manipur: Union Minister R K Ranjan’s residence set on fire in Imphal

The residence of Union Minister of State for External Affairs R K Ranjan at Kongba in Imphal was torched by a mob on Thursday night as part of the escalating ethnic violence in Manipur. According to news agency ANI, petrol bombs were hurled at Minister’s residence in Imphal.

The Union Minister was not at home at the time of the incident.

Earlier this week, Kangpokpi MLA and state cabinet minister Nemcha Kipgen’s official quarters were also set on fire in the state capital.

Manipur is grappling with violent ethnic clashes between Meiteis and Kukis for over a month. Union Government and state government are criticised for failing to take control of the situation.

Since May 3, more than 100 people are killed and tens of thousands are displaced due to the violence.

“I am currently in Kerala for official work. Thankfully, nobody got injured last night at my Imphal home. The miscreants came with petrol bombs and damage has been done to the ground floor and first floor of my home,” Ranjan told the news agency ANI.
