Muslim men arrested for allegedly distrupting a Navratri Garba event were tied to a pole and flogged with canes by police personnel in Gujarat’s Kheda district.
People were seen cheering as police officers including inspector in charge of the area watched plainclothes cops hit the Muslim men, show videos viral on Twitter Tuesday.
The incident happened in in Undhela village.
The Muslim men were asked to “apologise to the public.”
“10-11 heretics were brought to the village, where the police taught them a lesson in public” read a tweet by local news outlet VTV Gujarati News.
According to the news agency PTI, several Muslim men were arrested after members from the Muslim community in the village allegedly objected to garba being organised near a mosque. Police claimed that the Muslim men threw stones at Hindu festival event.
43 were named in the case and 13 were detained.
“Everyday there is more evidence of mass radicalisation. Floggings & mob violence by cops have become common. Targeted violence against Muslims is treated as “justice”. This is the reality of Modi’s Vishwaguru/New India/5G/$5 Trillion Ton economy,” tweeted Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM supremo and MP.
