RLJP chief Pashupati Kumar Paras resigns as Union Minister after being denied ticket in Bihar

Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party chief Pashupati Kumar Paras on 19 March resigned from the Union Cabinet, after his party was not given a single seat in the NDA coalition for Bihar for which seat distribution was done on Monday.

“Injustice has been done with my party,” Paras said.

“Yesterday, the NDA alliance announced the list of 40 candidates for Bihar Lok Sabha…Our party had five MPs and I worked with utmost sincerity…Injustice has been done with us & our party. Therefore, I resign from the post of Union Minister,” Paras said after putting in his resignation papers.

The announcement came at a press conference a day after the BJP-led NDA announced its seat-sharing pact and gave five seats to the Chirag Paswan-led LJP (Ram Vilas).

Pashupati Kumar Paras currently represents the Hajipur constituency in Lok Sabha, a seat previously represented by RLJP stalwart late Ram Vilas Paswan.

The NDA finalised its seat-sharing in Bihar for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections Monday, allotting 17 seats to the BJP, 16 to the Janata Dal (United), five to the Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and one each to Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM).
