Several killed due to cloudbursts, landslides in Himachal Pradesh

At least nine people were killed as a temple collapsed in a landslide triggered by heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh’s tourist hub Shimla on Monday. In Solan, at least seven people were killed and three others are reported missing in a cloudburst.

The continuous rainfall for around 55 hours caused flooding and landslides, causing destruction in Mandi, Sirmaur, Shimla, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Solan. Visuals of trees falling on vehicles and rocks falling from high altitudes have surfaced online.

“Reports of cloudbursts and landslides have emerged from various parts of the state resulting in loss of precious lives and property,” Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, wrote on social media X.

Nine bodies recovered from debris of temple that collapsed in Shimla, CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said.
