Sexual harassment: 2 FIRs filed against BJP MP and WFI chief, 1 under POCSO

Two First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered by Delhi Police against Bharatiya Janata Party MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in connection with the wrestlers’ allegations of sexual harassment.

One of the FIRs has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in connection with the complaint of a minor wrestler. The other has been registered in connection with outraging a woman’s modestly and other charges based on the complaints of the adult wrestlers.

India’s top women wrestlers have been protesting against the sidelined WFI chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, by sitting on a dharna in Jantar Mantar in national capital since 23 April.

The registration of FIRs against Singh comes four days after the wrestlers moved the Supreme Court, calling for action to be taken against the WFI chief.

The top court had called the allegations against Singh “serious” and said that they warrant the court’s consideration.
