Tahir Hussain gets bail in five cases related to Delhi violence, to remain in jail under UAPA case

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain in five separate cases related to the 2020 northeast Delhi violence.

All the five FIRs (80/2020, 91/2020, 92/2020, 117/2020 and 120/2020) were registered at Dayal Pur Police Station, Bar and Bench reported.

However, Hussain will still remain in judicial custody in other FIRs registered against him, including the UAPA case. A total of 11 FIRs were registered against Tahir Hussain in connection with the violence.

Senior Advocate Salman Khurshid had appeared for Hussain and argued that all the co-accused in the case have been granted bail and that Hussain was the only person who has been in jail for the last three years.

Last month, Hussain moved the trial court seeking regular bail in the UAPA case.

Many international and national rights groups and rights activists have been demanding the release of Hussain and other Muslim activists who were arrested under draconian UAPA in connection with the Delhi violence.
