Three Kashmiri men reportedly picked up by the Indian Army for questioning were found dead under suspicious circumstances on Friday near the site of an ambush by militants on two Army vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

The ambush occurred the previous day, resulting in five soldiers dead and two injured.

The deceased were among the eight men reportedly picked up by the Army for questioning in connection with Thursday’s attack at Dhatyar Morh, between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz, under the jurisdiction of the Surankote police station, officials said to PTI news agency.

The deceased were identified as Safeer Hussain (43), Mohammad Showket (27) and Shabir Ahmad (32). All are residents of Topa Peer village of Bufliaz.

The cause of their death was not known immediately.

Poonch Deputy Commissioner Choudhary Mohammad Yasin and Senior Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar arrived in Bufliaz following reports of the deaths of the three men, while Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar is also en route to Surankote, officials said.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said that forces picked up locals from Topa Peer near Bufliaz in Poonch, and three were found dead with injury marks. The LG should announce Rs 50 lakh for each innocent killed and 5 lakh for the injured until the inquiry is completed, she demanded.
