All educational institutions in Uttar Pradesh will be closed on 22 January, the day of the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, announced Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath on Tuesday.
The chief minister also referred to the ceremony as a “rashtra utsav”, or a national festival.
The temple stands where the Babri Masjid, which was torn down by a mob of Hindu nationalists on 6 December, 1992, earlier stood. The construction began after the Supreme Court of India on 9 November 2019 ordered the entire land to be allocated for the temple, granting amnesty to the perpetrators of the mosque demolition.
The chief minister also said that the sale of liquor would not be allowed across the state on the day.
