Veteran Muslim leader Professor KA Siddique Hassan passes away

Professor K .A. Siddique Hassan, prominent Islamic scholar from Kerala and former national vice president of Jamaat-e-islami Hind, died on Tuesday. He was 76.

Siddique Hassan, the chief architect of Vision 2016, was honoured with many awards including Imam Haddad Excellence Award, Islamic Online Star of 2010 by Islam Online and Ebrahim Sulaiman Sait Foundation Award.

Vision 2016 was a flagship project of Human Welfare Foundation (HWF). Hassan was the founder general secretary of HWF which is a public charitable trust working for the socioeconomic development of the largest minority in India, Muslims.

Since 2016, the project has been re-launched as 2026 and is still operational.

Hassan who worked as a professor in various colleges in Kerala including University College Thiruvananthapuram and Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, also served as the President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Kerala, from 1990 to 2005.

Hasaan was one of the creators of Madhyamam Daily, a Malayalam newspaper. Madhyamam is India’s first international newspaper and was founded in 1987 by the Ideal Publications Trust. Hassan was the founder general secretary of Ideal Publications Trust.

Earlier he has held positions of chairman of Alternative Investment and Credit Limited(AICL), founding chairman of Baithuzzakath, and sub-editor of Probodhanam weekly.
