Chelsea lift Champions League trophy for the first time since 2012

Chelsea players celebrate with the trophy after winning the Champions League.

Chelsea crowned Champions of Europe for the second time, as they beat Manchester City 1-0 thanks to Kai Havertz’s 42nd-minute goal in Porto.

Chelsea added to the first European Cup it won in 2012 and have become the 13th multiple winner of the UCL.

Manager Thomas Tuchel finally gets to lay his hands on the trophy a year after losing the 2020 final with Paris Saint Germain.

Thomas Tuchel said: “This is unbelievable. To share it with everybody is unbelievable. I don’t know what to feel. The players were determined to win this.”

Premier League champions City were favourites ahead of the final but suffered a desperately disappointing night in Porto in what was their first Champions League final.
