A 50-year-old Muslim man from Mewat, Haryana, died under suspicious circumstances after being assaulted by two men and later taken into police custody. His family has accused the police of custodial murder, alleging that he was alive when detained but later died in the station.

One 19-year-old Muslim youth was killed in police firing and several others were injured, including at least two police personnel, at Vidyapara locality of Krishnai area in Goalpara district on Thursday, 17 July, when forest officials’ effort to move out the evicted families from the area turned violent.

An eviction drive led by Assam Police and the Forest Department in Goalpara’s Paikan Reserve Forest turned violent on Thursday, leaving at least one person dead and another critically injured after police reportedly opened fire on protesters.

Last year, the Tamil Nadu police flexed their muscle about the highest number of convictions in 12 years, 150 “goons” brought to justice. Yet, somehow no single accused police personnel, “the goons in uniform”, of the 24 custodial death cases reported between 2022-2025 have been convicted. At most, lower-ranking personnel are arrested; higher-ups are quietly suspended, if that.

Located in Alwar’s Raghunathgarh village under the Naugaon police station area, the small village is in the news for constant arbitrary and targeted raids by Rajasthan Police in an attempt to bust cyber crime gangs allegedly operating from the Mewat region.

A delegation from the CPI(M), headed by Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat, visited the family of one-month-old, who was killed after being crushed under a police boot on Sunday in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, expressing solidarity with the grieving Muslim family.
