HCU; Students arrested for peaceful protests must be released -Amnesty

Amnesty International India condemns the police crackdown on peacefully protesting University of Hyderabad (UoH) students and faculty and demands their immediate release.There should be an independent investigation into allegations of excessive use of force by the police. On 22 March, the Telangana police assaulted protesting students in the UoH campus. Students were protesting against the return of the vice-chancellor of the university whom they hold responsible for the suicide of a Dalit Student, Rohith Vemula, in January 2016.

JAC Delhi stands with UoH students against state terror in University campus.

The joint action Committee for social justice Delhi Chapter has been organized a protest march to MHRD on the demand of removal of Appa Rao from the post of VC and against police brutality on the students. The march has stopped with barricades by Delhi police near national archives and people demonstrated by chanting slogans. The protest presided by JNUSU Vice President Shehla Rashid Shora. Various political party representatives declared their solidarity with the ongoing struggle at UoH and demanded immediate enactment of Rohith Act.

Several organizations and individuals came together today under the banner of Joint Action Committee for Social Justice, Mumbai, Maharashtra to protest against the police violence, wrongful arrests and the denial of electricity , water and food for students in Hyderabad Central University. It extends solidarity to students who are opposing the resumption of duties by HCU vice chancellor Apparao Podile who is an accused in the murder of Rohith and has been charged under the SC/ST Atrocities Act

Fast forward to 60 plus days and many protests later, VC Appa Rao Podile, the small fish who facilitated the murder of one of his own students, gets back to campus aided by right wing police and right wing administration. Nobody cares. Students starts protesting non violently and gets brutally beaten up and sexually, physically and verbally abused. Rape threats are issued at female students and Muslim students are called terrorists. Nobody bothers to report even. Around 36 people including 3 faculties are missing after police detained them. Do you care?
