Gaza death toll crosses 30,000 after Israel kills 77 waiting for food

Israeli tanks and artillery killed at least 77 Palestinians and wounded hundreds looking for food aid in Gaza City’s al-Rasheed Street on Thursday, the Palestinian health ministry said on Thursday. According to the latest update by the Health Ministry, the death toll due to Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has crossed 30,000.

30,035 people have been killed and 70,457 wounded by Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 7, according to officials. Hamas accused Israel of committing a “hideous massacre, unprecedented in the history of war crimes”.

The Palestinian group urged all Arab countries to “break their silence” regarding “the genocide” and immediately mobilise to bring food and medical aid into Gaza.

The Israeli military attack hit a crowd of people waiting for deliveries of food aid. Residents of Gaza City had gathered to look for food with the area completely cut off from aid, leading to fears of famine and reports of people, including babies, dying of hunger.

Twenty bodies were brought to Kamal Adwan Hospital while 57 were taken to al-Shifa Hospital, the ministry said. Hospitals in northern Gaza are unable to deal with the large influx of patients.

Quds News Network, citing medical sources, said the victims were targeted in their heads and chests, which indicates that Israeli forces aimed at killing them.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has condemned the attack, calling it a cold-blooded “massacre” of civilians. It called on the international community to “urgently intervene” to forge a ceasefire as “the only way to protect civilians”.

“We hold the US administration, the international community, the occupation, and international organisations responsible for the killing of civilians in light of their starvation by the occupation,” Gaza’s Government Media Office said.
