‘When is enough enough?’: WHO chief reiterates call for ceasefire

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), has reiterated calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, condemning what he called a “full five months of hellish conditions” in the Palestinian enclave.

“Almost 31,000 people have lost their lives, 72,000+ have been injured, thousands are missing,” he wrote in a post on X

“406 attacks on health care, 118 health workers are in detention, 1 in 3 hospitals is only partially or minimally functional,” he noted.

“When is enough enough?” he asked.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden said it was “looking tough” for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza by the start of Ramadan.

Three more children die of malnutrition and dehydration at Gaza’s al-Shifa hospital, Palestinian officials said, bringing the confirmed toll from starvation to 23.

Five people were killed by airdropped aid boxes because parachutes failed to open, highlighting the problem of getting desperately needed humanitarian relief into Gaza amid Israeli restrictions.

At least 30,878 Palestinians have been killed and 72,402 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7.
