In response to Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss’s claims that educated Dalit youth have lost faith in VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan, thousands of users on social media showed their support of Thirumavalavan and posted their educational qualifications in an attempt to prove Anbumani wrong.
The hashtags ‘I stand with Thiruma’ and ‘My leader Thiruma’ has been trending on the Twitter since Sunday.
“Educated youth of today have no faith in Thirumavalavan. They have lost faith in him. He has been exposed in the midst of the Dalit youth…He has been instigating the Dalit youth by saying they were oppressed long ago,” in a 17-minute long video, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss said.
“Those who make Vanniyar youth to set fire to Dalit homes are saying educated people don’t trust Thiruma. My parents are PhDs and professors. I wasn’t interested in studies. It was Thol Thirumavalavan who told me to get a degree, saying education is important. I finished a PhD from Anna University 10 years ago. I’ve taught and lectured at the best universities in the world. My writing is on many university syllabuses. I owe all these credentials, my politicisation to #MyLeaderThiruma,” award winning author Meena Kandasamy said.
“Tamil Nadu hasn’t seen a more intellectual leader,” she added.
Thanking those who expressed solidarity, Thol Thirumavalavan said, “The best education is one which equips people with humanity and equality.”
He said: “To differentiate people as educated and uneducated is the consequence of Sanatanist ideology. To use the word uneducated is an expression of arrogance. They are those denied the chance to be educated. That does not make them lowly.”
