At least five Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli army during overnight military raids on Sunday in the Jenin and Jerusalem areas of the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian health ministry told the WAFA Palestine news agency that three Palestinians were shot dead by the Israeli occupation forces in an attack early Sunday morning which targeted a house in the village of Beit Anan, to the northwest of occupied Jerusalem. The killed were identified as Ahmad Zahran, Mahmoud Hmaidan, and Zakariya Badwan.

Witnesses told WAFA that the Israeli army sealed off a house in the village and embarked on firing grenades, bombs, and gunfire at it and that explosions were heard during the raid.

A video that was shared on social media showed Israeli soldiers taking away a body believed to belong to a Palestinian young man whom they killed during the attack, shortly before MoH confirmed that the total number of victims was three.

Israeli forces also killed two residents from the village of Burqin, southwest of Jenin city, who were identified as 22-year-old Osama Soboh, and 16-year-old child, Yousif Soboh, spokesman for the Palestinian health ministry confirmed to Al Jazeera.

The bodies of the three Palestinians from Biddu are in Israeli army custody. The fourth, Osama Soboh, died at the Ibn Sina hospital in Jenin.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) sealed off the village and declared it a closed military zone in the aftermath of the deadly attack, WAFA reported.

In a statement, Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh mourned the four Palestinians.

“Patience and solace to their families and close ones, and freedom to our people from this criminal occupation and its continuous violations against our people,” the statement said.

Israeli media said the army raids aimed to arrest “Hamas operatives”.
