‘Artists Against Communalism,’ a week-long festival at Shaheen Bagh

Mudgal, who has received several awards and accolades for her artistic accomplishments, including the Padma Shri, awarded in 2000 also expressed her solidarity with the historic protest of Shaheen Bagh.

With the recent Sangh Parivar threats and the increasing incidents of Hindutva violence, the women protesters at Shaheen Bagh have decided to host “Artists Against Communalism.

On Tuesday evening, famous Hindustani classical vocalist Shubha Mudgal performed along with Sufi singer Madan Gopal Singh, the new-wave band Moongphali, and rapper Naveen.

Dastoor, which has become such a big part of the Shaheen Bagh protests being sung by noted singer Mudgal.

Mudgal’s repertoire includes the genres of Khayal, Thumri and Dadra, as also popular Indian pop music. Mudgal, who has received several awards and accolades for her artistic accomplishments, including the Padma Shri, awarded in 2000 also expressed her solidarity with the historic protest of Shaheen Bagh.

Kusha Kapila, the digital influencer, comedy sketch performer, content creator and now Netflix star has already performed at Shaheen Bagh on the first day of “Artists Against Communalism,” where an interactive theater experience also took place.

“Artists Against Communalism”, begun as a precaution against Sangh Parivar attacks towards Shaheen Bagh protest on Monday.

This event is featuring a series of performances by musicians, rappers, poets, actors, comedians, and other artists from across India that will take place till 7th February 2020.

On Wednesday, the Shaheen Bagh stage will feature pop-stars Anushka Manchanda and the millennial darling Prateek Kuhad.
