Delhi Police has so far registered 38 cases, arrested 84 people in connection with Republic Day tractor rally, PTI quoted officials were saying.
Notices have also been issued to 20 farmer leaders over the incident.
While the Delhi Police is holding farmer leaders responsible for violating the agreed rules of the tractor parade, the farmers have said there was a police crackdown against the agitating farmers ans conspiracy to sabotage and malign their peaceful protest.
On Friday, the Delhi Police had issued an appeal in leading newspapers asking people to share any evidence or information about the violence.
“All members of the public, including media persons, who are witnesses to the incidents or have any information about the incident or have captured any activity on their mobile phones or camera, are hereby requested to come forward and give their statements/footage/picture in their possession at room number 215, second floor, Old Delhi Police Headquarters, ITO during office hours, on any working day or contact on 8750871237 or 011-23490094 or send e-mail on [email protected],” the appeal stated.
Following the footsteps of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Police, the Delhi Police Saturday filed FIR against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, journalists Rajdeep Sardesai, Mrinal Pande, Paresh Nath, Anant Nath, and Vinod K Jose for reporting and tweets on the farmers’ protests and police actions across Delhi on January 26.
Police also said it has received 1,700 video clips, CCTV footage from public related to the incidents.
“National Forensic Sciences University team has been called to analyse videos related to Delhi tractor rally violence,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) B K Singh told PTI.
He further said the police is examining dump data of mobile calls and the registration numbers of tractors.
On Republic Day, thousands of farmers entered New Delhi and reached Red Fort and ITO from Singhu and Ghazipur borders as part of their tractor rally against Narendra Modi government’s new agri laws.
Dozens of shells were fired at protesting farmers who entered national capital after getting approval from Delhi Police, protesters earlier told Maktoob.
Navneet Singh, a farmer in his 30s, who was on one of the tractors, was hit by a tear gas shell on his head and killed at ITO Tuesday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses told Maktoob that police bullet had hit Navneet while he was driving a tractor.
Reports say over 110 police officials and 215 farmers were injured during Republic Day’s protests and police actions.
