‘Finish Siddaramaiah off like Tipu was’: Karnataka ex BJP minister booked for hate speech

The Karnataka Police on Wednesday filed a case against Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Karnataka minister CN Ashwath Narayan for saying at a poll rally that Congress veteran Siddaramaiah should be “finished off” like 18th-century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan.

Narayan had made the hate speech about Siddaramaiah, who is now the Karnataka chief minister, at a rally on February 15.

Ashwath Narayan, who was a minister in the Basavaraj Bommai government, has been booked under sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 153 (giving provocation with intent to cause riot) of the Indian Penal Code.

Congress leaders have made claims that the police failed to file a case despite their complaint in February following Ashwath Narayan’s speech. The FIR registered hours after a group of Congress leaders announced their intention to stage a protest against the Mysuru Police on Wednesday if they did not take action and register the complaint.
