Hate speech: Hindutva leaders glorify killings of Muslims in Gujarat, Babri demolition

“Wasim Rizvi is now living as Jitendra Prasad Narayan in this country, O Abdul and Mehmood listen carefully if you want to live in this country, you have to become Amit and Madan – sunlo o Abdul or Mehmood, is desh me rehna hai to Amit or Madan bankar rehna hoga. If you try to become Afzal and Kasab you will be hanged to death. This is not the country of Gandhi anymore who preached of offering another cheek if someone slaps you at one, this country is changed. If a Muslim tries to slap you, cut his hand and give it in another hand.”

These were some of the statements made by Vikram Singh Bhatti, leader of a Hindutva outfit called Vishwa Hindu Parishad on December 6, in the “Shourya Diwas” organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal in Dadra and Nagar Haveli’s Silvasa.

‘Shourya Diwas’ is an event observed by the Indian right-wing Hindutva outfits and Hindu extremists every year on December 6 to celebrate the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Other features of this event were glorifying the killings of Muslims during the 2002 Gujarat Pogrom, justifying the demolition of the Babri Mosque, and furthering the boycott of Muslim men.

In an attempt to instigate the audience present in the event in numbers, Bhatti said, “Mughals during their rule had desecrated hundreds of Temples. Some people say petrol prices are heightened to 100 rs per litre, let it rise to 200 rupees, but we can compromise if it stops the rise of Muslims in India. Another demolition should be in Mathura, our next target should be Mathura.”

Indicating to demolition of the Babri Mosque he further said, “Ayodhya to ek jhanki hai, mitron kashi mathura baqi hai – Ayodhya was just a glimpse, Kashi Mathura is still left.”

Mocking the killings of Muslims during the 2002 Gujarat Pogrom, he said, “These jihadis killed our Hindu brothers in Sabarmati Express on 27 February 2002 but Hindus of Gujarat paid it back by killing more than 500 Muslims the very next day on 28 February and then Muslims were seen crying in the media.”

In his half hour long speech Bhatti also said, “Hazaron saal hmare upar Musalmaon ne raaj kiya, Aaj hum Azaad hain, lekin ye azadi hmare poorvajon ne dilayi hai, ye hmare poorwajon ka balidaan hai – We were ruled by Muslims for thousand years but now we are liberated and we must keep in mind that this is a result of the sacrifices made by our ancestors.

“Hindu ancestors made a lot of sacrifices for the establishment of Ram Janam Bhoomi (Ram Mandir in Ayodhya which is being constructed on the rubbles of Babri Mosque, attacked and demolished by the Hindu nationalists in 1992, igniting communal violence in the Indian subcontinent.)”, he added.

Bhatti said, “We didn’t get this freedom and peace from Charkha but it is bestowed upon us by the saint-like Yogi Adiyanath.”

Charkha is a cloth spinning wheel usually associated with Mohandas Karamchad Gandhi, father of the nation and Adityanath is the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, infamous for his anti-Muslim speeches, actions, and sentiments.

He concluded his speech by saying, “Is dharm ki rakhsha karne k liye, muh me jai shree ram hona chahiye, dimag me Nathuram (Godse) hona chahiye aur haath me parshuram hona chahiye – To save the Hindu religion, one should keep chanting Jai Shree Ram, keep Nathuram in his mind and Parshuram in his Hand).”

Nathuram Godse was a Hindu Nationalist and assassin of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was also a member of Rashtriya Swayemsewak Sangh- a right-wing Hindu paramilitary outfit with the aim of establishing a Hindu Rashtra.

In the videos of the event that surfaced on social media sites, the crowd can be seen cheering and applauding as he made the statements through the stage followed by the slogan cum war cry, “Jai shree ram”.

The event was attended by children as young as 8 and 10 and women along with men in large numbers in the Silwasa area of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

In another video that has surfaced on social media, an unidentified VHP-Bajrang Dal leader urged the women and girls present in the gathering to boycott Muslim men.

He said, “Don’t get fooled by these misbelievers (Muslims), as they are not trued to their own sisters. You will not even realize when they will befriend you, become your brother and within 10 days you will be chopped in 36 pieces. So don’t get into their traps.”

“Don’t believe them even if they promise to marry you, marriage is just a contract in their religion as their Maulanas say, unlike our Hindu Religion which is a bond of 7 births.”, he added.

While instigating the audience against diversity and brotherhood he said, “Those who talk about bhaichara (Brotherhood) won’t even let you know before turning you into a chara (Fodder)

In an attempt to radicalize the audience against Christians, another religious minority in the country he went on to accuse the Christian community of Silwasa of forcefully converting Hindus and Advivasis.

At the end of his speech,h he recited a self-written poem glorifying the demolition of Babri Masjid. The last line of the poem goes as, “…phoot pada phir sailab aur duniya ne sar jhukaya tha, lakhon ram bhakton ki ayodhya main goonji dahaad aur babri ko bhi dahaya tha – a day came when the when emotions of Lord Ram’s devotees flooded and roared, the world bowed down to obey and demolished the Babri.”
