Hate speech: Suresh Chavhanke posts cartoon depicting Muslims throwing stones at Chandrayaan 3

Suresh Chavhanke, the editor of Sudarshan News, known for his anti-Muslim remarks, posted a cartoon on X, previously known as Twitter, accusing Muslims of throwing stones at the recently launched Chandrayaan 3, India’s third lunar exploration mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

The cartoon depicts characters wearing Kurta Pajamas and skull caps hurling stones at the Chandrayaan 3 lander.

The image also includes a display board with the Hindi text, “chand ki Zameen waqf ki milkiyat hai,” translating to “The Moon’s land belongs to Waqf,” implying mockery of the Waqf board.

Mukesh Kumar, the resident editor of Sudarshan News, was arrested on 11 August by the Gurugram Police’s Cyber Crime Unit for an inflammatory tweet on X. The tweet was related to the Nuh Violence and accused the foreign media house Al Jazeera of influencing law enforcement, which allegedly led to the arrest of Hindutva men.

He has since been granted bail, while an individual who shared his tweet has been placed in judicial custody.
