PhysicsWallah teacher’s casteist remark sparks outrage

A video of Manish Raj, a teacher at the online education platform PhysicsWallah, has gone viral due to a casteist remark.

In the video, Manish Raj is heard saying, “What kind of life did God give him? Sometimes he regrets his life; then he should have been born a ‘chamar’ so that he could polish boots. That would have been a life of peace.”

Dalit and Bahujan activists are demanding action against the teacher from the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Bahujan Lives Matter reported.

Raj’s statement has been met with widespread condemnation from activists and social media users.

Sumit Chauhan, journalist and founder of The Shudra, has called for an investigation into the video and is demanding appropriate action under the SC ST Atrocities Act against the teacher who used casteist language.

PhysicsWallah is an online ed-tech platform founded by Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari in 2020. It became a unicorn in June 2022 after raising $100 million at a valuation of $1.1 billion. Currently, the company has a student base of 135,000.
