Tamil Nadu: 5 arrested in connection with LPG cylinder explosion

The Tamil Nadu police on Sunday arrested five persons in connection with the LPG cylinder blast incident near a temple in Coimbatore’s Ukkadam, Indian Express reported.

The police identified the accused as Mohammad Thalka (25), Mohammad Asarudheen (25) of Ukkadam, and Mohammad Riyaz (27), Feroz Ismail (27) and Mohammad Navaz Ismail (27) of GM Nagar.

A Muslim youth, Jemisha Mubeen, previously questioned by the National Investigation Agency in 2019, was killed in the blast.

CCTV footage showed a group of men carrying a gunny bag from Mubeen’s house.

Police chief C Sylendra Babu said that “low-intensive” explosive material including potassium nitrate were recovered from the house.

The Indian Express has reported that Mubeen was questioned by the National Investigation Agency in 2019 for his ties to a radical network related to Zahran Hashim, the mastermind of the Easter Sunday blasts in Sri Lanka.

The death of Mubin caused by an LPG cylinder blast on board a car has sparked speculations about a possible terror plot.
