Thol Thirumavalavan MP ,Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder and the CPIM Tamil Nadu leaders met Tamil Nadu police chief J K Tripathy on Friday to demand a ban on the proposed ‘Vetrivel Yatra’ by the BJP’s state unit. They have said that the event might provoke communal unrest among religious groups and therefore, permission should not be granted.
“The BJP is trying to instigate violence and flare up communal tension through the yatra. Therefore, permission should not be given for the event,” Thol Thirumavalavan said.
The event is planned to be conducted from November 6 to December 6, after the controversy over Kantha Sashti Kavacham, a devotional hymn to Lord Murugan,which is viewed as a show of strength and a move to secure Hindu votes in the state.
Thirumavalavan told the reporters after meeting the DGP that,”This is not a yatra for social justice, not a yatra for language or race, not to eradicate poverty or to save the environment. This is a yatra to incite religious tension and provoke violence. This is a planned conspiracy.”
“Just like how they carried out caste and religious-based violence and won elections in North India, they are planning the same in Tamil Nadu. So I have given a letter seeking a ban on the yatra,” he added.
“Similar rallies conducted in the past have proven that the party’s only intention is to create fake communal incidents. The yatra might incite violence and also lead to spread of COVID-19,” CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said.
Whereas, Tamil Nadu BJP general secretary Karu Nagarajan also met the DGP within a few hours, requesting permission to conduct the yatra. He said that the yatra will bring back the spiritual rights of the state that will make a change in the politics. “The Vetrivel Yatra will start from Thiruthani and end at Tiruchendur. We have already given a letter seeking permission. So now, we just wanted to remind them about the letter.”
“This is our right, so we are asking for permission. During the yatra spanning over a month from November 5 to December 6, TN BJP president L Murugan will speak in 60 places,” He also added.
Thirumavalavan also told the reporters that there is conspiracy behind the decision to end the yatra on december 6 which is the death anniversary of BR Ambedkar and Babri Masjid demolition anniversary.
