Unauthorised cash seized from BJP functionary near Coimbatore, suspected to be for voters

On Wednesday, an election flying squad team seized ₹81,000 in unauthorised cash and a voter list from a local BJP functionary in Pooluvapatti village in the Coimbatore district.

The money was taken from the , R. Jothimani (37), who is currently the president of the BJP at Alandurai, which falls in the Thondamuthur assembly segment of the Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency.

Authorities suspect that the cash was being transported to be distributed to voters as it was found with a voter list.

Based on specific information that he was carrying cash intended to be distributed to voters, Election flying squad team III of the Thondamuthu assembly segment intercepted the functionary’s vehicle at Pooluvapatti around 11 p.m. on Wednesday. The tip stated that BJP officials intended to give voters money next to a tea vendor in Pooluvapatti.

Jothimani’s car was inspected by the squad under the direction of Deputy Commercial Tax Officier Pushpadevi. The voters’ list and the confiscated money were turned over to the Perur Tahsildar’s office.
