West Bengal: 11 year old brutally attacked for refusing to chant Jai Sri Ram

The latest attack on Muslim community for refusing to chant Jai Sri Ram is reported from West Bengal on Monday. The incident took place in the Muslim dominated district of Murshidabad. An 11 year old boy, Rajibul Islam was brutally beaten up by a gang of four Hindutva goons when he refused to chant Jai Sri Ram. The boy was going to school day before yesterday morning in the city of sagardigi when the goons attacked him. Rajibul sustained grave injuries and was immediately rushed to a hospital.

“I was going to school while four men on bike came in front of me and forced me to chant Jai Sri Ram. I asked them what is the meaning of it? I won’t say it.” Said Rajibul. When he refused their demand, the goons started beating him with a stick. He was getting hit on his back, legs and chest. “I am a class 6 student.” Rajibul Islam added.

Initially taken to Jangipur sub divisional hospital, Rajibul was later shifted to Murshidabad state general hospital as his injuries were serious. Police inaction in the wake of the incident stick the locals. They gathered in protest and had blocked National Highway 34 for two hours.

As an aftermath, cops acted on a warfooting and nabbed all four perpetrators. Initially police could only apprehend two of the culprits. Indrajit Dutta, Ram Das, Champak Sarkar, and Naren Debnath are the attackers who have been booked in the FIR for non-bailable offences. According to sagardigi sub divisional police officer, all the attackers hail from Islampur, Dinajpur district.
