“on side of oppressed until last day I breathe…”: El Ghazi after German club terminates contract over Palestine posts

The Dutch footballer Anwar El Ghazi said that the termination of his contract with German club Mainz 05 “is nothing when compared to the hell being unleashed on the innocent and vulnerable in Gaza.”

On Friday, Mainz said that El Ghazi’s deal had been ended due to “comments and posts from the player on social media.”

El Ghazi had posted messages in support of the Palestinian resistance and stood by his words after Mainz suspended him.

“I do not distance myself from what I said and stand for humanity and on the side of the oppressed until the last day I breathe,” El Ghazi said.

“Stand for what is right, even if it means standing alone,” El Ghazi said.

“The loss of my livelihood is nothing when compared to the hell being unleashed on the innocent and vulnerable in Gaza,” he added.

“I do not regret or have any remorse for my position,” the player wrote.
