A National Investigation Agency court Thursday discharged Assam MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi in the only pending UAPA and sedition case against him.
The Assam Congress-led grand alliance is mulling to not field candidate in the constituency from where newly formed party Raijor Dal's president and arrested activist Akhil Gogoi will contest in the upcoming state polls, an Assam local media reported.
Both AJP and RD, the regional parties formed last year, are the offshoots of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests that rocked the state in December 2019.
Only a few months before Assembly elections in Assam, Chief advisor of Akhil Gogoi led new party Raijor Dal, Dr. Hiren Gohain told reporters that joining hands with All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal will bring no harm to the party.
Raijor Dal, an Assam political party formed by about 70 organisations three months ago, has named jailed peasants rights activist Akhil Gogoi as its first president.
