France saw increase in anti-Muslim hate amid Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza: report

In 2023, incidents of anti-Muslim hate in France jumped by 57%, with 828 incidents recorded across the nation over the year, according to the annual report of the Collective Against Islamophobia in Europe (CCIE).

Women are the primary victims of anti-Muslim racism and they account for 81.5% of the total number of affected.

These include acts of discrimination, provocation and incitement to hatred, degradation, insults, moral harassment, defamation and physical attacks.

62.3% of anti-Muslim incidents took place in public places including primary, middle and high schools.

The increase in incidents within school and university settings from 2022 to 2023 amounts to 80.1%.

Notably, 182 complaints were filed following the announcement of an Abaya ban in schools in September 2023, well exceeding the monthly average of 96.

The report also suggests that the incidents of hate against Muslims increased across Europe after Israel began its genocidal war in Gaza on October 7, 2023.

The same conclusion was made by similar study reports in India and the US.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 30,534 Palestinians have been killed, and 71,920 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Moreover, at least 7,000 people are presumed dead under the rubble throughout the Strip.
