Paris St-Germain coach Christophe Galtier to face trial over racist, Islamophobic remarks

French football club Paris St-Germain manager Christophe Galtier will go on trial in December as a result of a probe into alleged discrimination.

Christophe Galtier was accused of making racist remarks in April when he was manager of Nice.

On Friday, he and his son were arrested and taken in for questioning following the probe launched in April.

Galtier’s son John Valovic-Galtier is a football agent.

After his son was released without charge, Galtier was referred to the public prosecutor’s office.

Galtier will stand trial on December 15 before the Nice Criminal Court, said Nice’s public prosecutor Xavier Bonhomme.

In a leaked email sent to Nice’s former director of football, Julien Fournier in April, it was alleged Galtier said there were too many black and Muslim players in the squad.

“He [Galtier] told me that I should take account of the reality of the city and that in effect we should not have as many blacks and Muslims in the team. He told me he wanted to profoundly change the team’s make-up and limit the maximum number of Muslims,”claimed Fournier.

He has been charged with “moral harassment and discrimination on the grounds of actual or supposed membership or non-membership of a particular ethnic group, nation, alleged race or religion.”
