Aryan Khan was targeted because of his surname: Mehbooba Mufti

Aryan Khan has been denied bail, even as his lawyer argued that no drugs were found in his possession during the Narcotics Control Bureau’s raid on a cruise ship party off the coast of Mumbai on 2 October.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday alleged on Twitter that actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, who has been arrested in a drugs case, was being targeted because of his surname.

“Instead of making an example out of a Union Minister’s son accused of killing four farmers, central agencies are after a 23-year-old simply because his surname happens to be Khan,” read Mufti’s tweet.

Travesty of justice that Muslims are targeted to satiate the sadistic wishes of BJP’s core vote bank, former CM alleged.

The PDP supremo was referring to junior home minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra, who has been arrested in the Lakhimpur Kheri farmers’ killing.

Meanwhile, Aryan Khan has been denied bail, even as his lawyer argued that no drugs were found in his possession during the Narcotics Control Bureau’s raid on a cruise ship party off the coast of Mumbai on 2 October.

Khan has argued in bail petition that he was arrested only on the basis of some WhatsApp messages.

Police complaint against Mufti

Two lawyers in Delhi have filed a police complaint against Mehbooba Mufti for her claim, accusing her of “provoking the Muslim community”, ANI reported.

The lawyers have said that a First Information Report should be filed against Mufti for “attempting to create enmity between communities.”

“It is an inciting statement which intends to create hatred and unrest among the communities,” the complainants alleged. “Mufti’s statement clearly depicts her intention and act to incite the Muslim community of our country thus it may threaten the security, peace, and harmony of our nation and disrupt public order.”

Targeted because of SRK’s Muslim identity

Several activists, journalists, and netizens took to social media to express their opinion that Aryan Khan was arrested and denied bail because of his father’s Muslim identity.

“Aryan khan is being targeted because he is a Muslim,” Dr. Udit Raj, national spokesperson of Congress and former MP said in a tweet.

Award-winning journalist Rana Ayyub wrote: “Do you seriously think this is about Aryan Khan consuming has ( By that logic one-fourth of Bombay will be in jail). The fact that a 23-year-old son of a superstar has been unable to exercise his constitutional right to secure bail is a loud and clear message to those with a public voice to fall in line. Add to this, SRK also happens to be one of the biggest Muslim superstars and cinematic icons who might not have taken on the regime but has often made it obvious that he would not endorse this skewed idea of India which is being brazenly sold on celluloid by his colleagues.”

“Aryan Khan case has nothing to do with him consuming drugs but a clear targeting of Shahrukh,” alleges journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani.

“Aryan’s basic right of securing bail is being denied in a free country. SRK is undoubtedly the biggest Muslim superstar of our times ‘Process as punishment’ is a msg to him to fall in line,” she said.
